Day – Photoshop/Lightroom

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

My courses were due to run between March -June. Due to the unpredictable nature of the situation, any long-form courses not already started will be postponed until it is clear what is happening.

With luck, I'll be up and running again over the Summer and hopefully back to classroom-based courses in September.

You do not need to own the software to take part in this course.
Each of you will have access to a PC which is fitted with the full suite of Adobe software. You may bring your own laptop to work from if you already own the software. Please let me know when you book the course.

This course is for complete beginners to photo editing software and offers a thorough introduction to the key software in the Adobe Photography Plan.

It covers the practical and creative skills involved in using the Plan: everything from importing your images from your camera and creating a searchable catalog/database, right through to learning the correct editing tools and skills required to enhance and prep your photographs for print or web use,  along with much more.

The first thing I will do is introduce you to the different software available in the Adobe Photography Plan and clarify their place in relation to each other (See Which program do I use?'). We will then focus on the three main programs - Photoshop, Lightroom Classic and Lightroom (mobile).

Following on from this, you will learn the key concept to getting the best out of the Plan - workflow. This is the way professional photographers and photo-editors use the software, by creating a workflow to seamlessly co-ordinate and move between the main programs.

It is easier to view these three pieces of software as one unit and I will show you the most efficient and clear way of using them together.

To obtain Photoshop and Lightroom one has to subscribe to the Adobe Photography Plan, currently available for £9.98 per month from Adobe. The ‘plan’ includes Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, Lightroom (mobile), Bridge and Adobe Camera RAW along with two other mobile apps.

You pay one fee and get all of them but cannot purchase them separately. Most consumers find this confusing, as they don’t which one is ‘best’ or will suit their needs. The internet is little help as each piece of software has its own fans and detractors, only adding to confusion.

This course begins by sorting out this confusion and helping you establish the best working practice for using the software included in the plan.

Once we have set up a workflow using the main programs, you will work in detail on editing different types of images in class. You will be given step-by-step instructions and guidance designed to introduce the main tools and techniques enabling you to later apply these skills to your own images.

"Before going on Bill’s beginners photography course, I was a bit hesitant. I was quickly reassured upon meeting Bill, who is incredibly down-to-earth and engaging in his teaching.

I would highly recommend any beginners heading into intermediary levels, as I’m sure you’ll learn something new, and most importantly have a fun time as well!"

James Barron

"I attended Bill’s beginners photography course this year and really enjoyed it. By the end of the course I felt confident enough to use my camera on manual settings and knew how to compose a good photo.

Bill has a wealth of knowledge and is a great teacher. I would recommend his course to anybody who would like to take their cameras off automatic settings with confidence."
